Dr. Michael Montano, MD

Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Sports Medicine

Dr. Michael Montano is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, he specializes in the latest arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures for the shoulder, knee, and hip. As former team captain and starting pitcher of his NCAA Division I baseball team, Michael displays a seasoned and personable leadership style with a unique perspective on treating athletes. During his training, he assisted in the orthopedic care of the Boston Red Sox AAA affiliate team, as well as many of the surrounding collegiate and professional athletes in the Boston area. Dr. Montano also has a special interest in robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery. In fact, he is responsible for introducing the MAKO robotic technology to Alaska. Accordingly, he is the most experienced MAKO robotic assisted joint replacement surgeon in the state.

After joining the Matsu Valley two years ago, he has already been recognized as one of the top doctors in Alaska by the International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons. His profile was spotlighted in the 2017 renowned publication, The Leading Physicians of the World. He was also honored to serve as the chairman of the 2017 William J. Mills III All Alaska Orthopedic Conference.

He and his wife, Katie Montano, a Nurse Practitioner, live on a farm in Palmer, Alaska. They are highly motivated and extremely active in the Mat-Su Valley athletic community. They were selected as Palmer Active Soles Team Athletes and assist with several of the local community sports teams.
